Students are expected to gain a thorough understanding of the place and role of lexis and phonology in effective communication as well as the lexical, phonological and phonetic features of English. Students should also develop the capacity to analyze and describe the lexical and phonological features of a variety of texts, both written and spoken. In addition, they should become familiar and use simple techniques of analysis used by phoneticians and phonologists to study the sounds of English.
